The Most Rev. Stephen D. Wood serves as the third Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and continues as the Bishop of the Diocese of the Carolinas. He was elected Archbishop by the College of Bishops on June 22, 2024, succeeding the Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach.
Archbishop Wood has a rich history of service within the Anglican community. He became the first Bishop of the Diocese of the Carolinas in 2012 and has been the Rector of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, since 2000. Under his leadership, St. Andrew’s has grown significantly, with a membership exceeding 3,200, and has planted new churches in Goose Creek, SC, and downtown Charleston.
His ministry is characterized by a commitment to church growth, pastoral care, and community engagement. His election as Archbishop reflects his peers’ recognition of his leadership and vision for the future of the ACNA. In his role, he focuses on transparency and compassion, guiding the young denomination as it continues to mature.
